Making document extraction reviewable
Designing a workflow at Coralis Bio that turns lab procedures into structured records scientists can check, correct, and approve.
The problem
At Coralis Bio, a lab’s standard operating procedure becomes a structured process record in Process Studio. The person reviewing that record needs to understand where each field came from and be able to correct it before approval.
My contribution
As Head of Product, I lead product vision, user experience, and AI development at Coralis Bio.
I designed the product’s core flows, from program setup through Process Studio, and built the design system behind them. I translated the founding scientists’ knowledge into requirements the engineering team could build.
For document extraction, that meant connecting each field to its source passage and giving scientists a way to review, correct, and approve the resulting record. I worked across the interface and extraction behavior to make the output verifiable.
What we checked
In a check using one 21-operation manufacturing process, three fresh extraction runs returned the same record, with every field linked to its source passage. This was a repeatability check on that process; it does not establish performance across all documents.
The design principle is straightforward: when someone needs to act on an output, the path back to the evidence belongs in the workflow.
